PLANETNOTION TELEVISION!
CAMERA-FOLK AND FILM EDITORS WANTED!
Planet Notion is looking for guys and dolls to film and edit features for its new TV channel, PNTV. Accompanying Notion to artist interviews, gigs, fashion shows, festivals and international events, you will be skilled, passionate and full of ideas about how to produce shit-hot video content. Camera-folk will be experienced and ideally have their own equipment, or at least access to equipment, while editors must be able to turn projects around quickly, and with stylistic flare. If you can both film and edit content, we would especially like to hear from you! These casual, unpaid positions would be ideal for those looking to develop their showreels, and to get the chance to travel, film major artists and top events.

Get this: The Hacienda is avin’ it large, in the only ways The Hacienda knows ow’!!! Okay, so that was a rather poor attempt by Planet Notion to master the art of talking Manc via the medium of text. Okay, okay, it was crap; but try this one for size: The Hacienda is out on tour on one long fookin’ partay to rival all fookin’ partays!!! Shameless really. No really, it was better wasn’t it? Well, mildly so… They should probably invent a ‘Dictionary of Manchester’ to make the Southern hack’s life a little easier. In fact, I might approach Theo Paphitis to see if he’s interested in making it a reality on the next series of Dragon’s Den. Anyway, The Hacienda, legendary Manchester club and institution on the British music scene, will be jet-setting all around Europe from August through to the end of the year. Now, before we rattle on about the dates, month by month and all the exciting talent that’ll be gracing various venues, et cetera, et cetera, we have to draw your attention to one very special FAC 51 do - typically, specially reserved for a Manchester Christmas shindig. Yes, very recently announced, Hacienda sparring partners, The Happy Mondays - those Mancunian survivors and superstars, return to the club where they originally made their name, fame and some fortune, as they play live for The Hacienda at The Warehouse Project on December 28th 2008. Throughout the twists and turns of their riotous career, the Happy Mondays have remained one of their city’s top live draws and with their last Manchester appearance at G – Mex last December, the Hacienda’s Christmas Warehouse Party provides a very rare chance to catch the band in a smaller scale, warehouse venue. With that done and dealt with, you lot alerted and all that, we present the Hacienda's August schedule, chiselled into bite-size chunks fit for consumption by Prince or that weird bloke from Labyrinth who looks like David Pleat… On top of their weekly residency at Eden, Ibiza, which we’ve previously discussed on this here website, The Hacienda will be hitting Barcelona’s City Hall on August 17th. Headlining the date will be none other than Andy Weatherall. Now, Andy’s relationship with The Hacienda doesn’t end with being an innovator of the Acid House scene, oh no… Andy has also masterfully remixed for names inseparable from the good clubs name. We’re talking the Happy Mondays and New Order, as well as for renowned artists including Primal Scream and Bjork. Oh yeah; Andy is the proverbial Bee’s Knees. If that doesn’t give you a tingling sensation, in an area where tingling sensations are a pleasantry, The Hacienda will also be gracing the mighty Creamfields on August 24th. Oh yes. Forever voted ‘Britain’s Best Dance Festival’, since launching 10 years ago, Creamfields will welcome many a Hacienda legend. Leading the way will be none other than the mighty Peter Hook. The Hacienda co-founder and owner will be joined by luminaries including Mike Pickering, Graeme Park, Jon DaSilva, and Dave Haslam… Exciting is an understatement. If you could bottle-up legends of The Hacienda, shake em’ about until the cork was throbbing, and then spray it in someone’s face – that face would be CREAMFIELDS 2008! The lads will be gracing the VIP area with a marathon of sets. And as if that wasn’t enough for one day, The Hacienda will simultaneously be hitting Cardiff’s ‘Liquid and Life’, and Huddersfield’s ‘Cotton Factory’. Phew! Finally, Andy Weatherall will be making the trip from his earlier date in Barcelona to Birmingham’s ‘Rainbow Warehouse’ on August 29th… Does that sound like a month to rival all other months ever, or does that sound like a month to rival all other months ever? Soundcrash presents Hexstatic! Live AV at KOKO!

At first glance, Planet Notion was really excited about KOKO hosting a night of pornographic imagery and cutting-edge break-beat. Then it suddenly dawned on us that AV doesn’t refer to ‘Adult Video’, but ‘Audio Visual’. I’m sure you can picture our disappointment. Thing is, after reading the line-up for Videocrash, our spirits were soon lifted and we rejoiced once again. Presented by Soundcrash and taking place on 13th September, we’re ecstatic to announce that Videocrash will welcome the Hexstatic posse. Branded as one of the top audio/visual performers the world over, Hexstatic will be bringing ultra-fine breaks and beats along with an enormous cinema screen for a ‘well far out’ experience. So here’s the deal, Hexstatic is made up of Ninja Tune’s finest, including the legendary DJ Food and DK; yes, the DJ Food and DK. They’ll be joined by the likes of Pest - regarded as one of the top break-beat acts of the last decade, and the highly-rated Cheeba, who’ll be going head-to-head with another big-breaks-talent, Boom Monk Ben. MN2S at The End & AKA! August 29th!

MN2S is returning to The End and AKA. Hoorah! And as usual the event will wade through a sea of house music courtesy of some of the house scene’s finest swimmers. Unfortunately Captain Nemo won’t be appearing; nor will the mighty Nauticus, which is a mighty shame because I fucking love Nemo and I’ve always dreamt of riding the Nauticus… but fear not, this is still going to be one heck of a night. Well, if you like House music anyway. “Yeah, but what could be better than Nemo?” I hear you cry… Well, try Robbie Rivera on for size! That’s The Robbie Rivera; one of the most in demand, globe-trotting DJs on the House scene. The list of names that Rivera has remixed for makes the Queen’s address book look like Gary Glitter’s; seriously, it’s that friggin’ big. We’re talking Basement Jaxx, David Guetta, Madonna, Kylie, Bob Sinclair, Faithless, and Pink – to name but a few! Rivera will be joined in the main room by Michael Gray; not to be confused with the Wolverhampton Wanderers football player known to his peers as Sick Note. No, this Michael Gray is a well respected House DJ, who in the words of House scenesters is “Big In The Game”. Not only has Gray got his own record label but he’s also achieved chart success with tracks including ‘The Weekend’ and ‘Borderline’. Next-up we have a Dutch fella from the mighty Fedde le Grand’s camp of House luminaries. Exciting, I’m sure you’ll agree. We are of course referring to the imaginatively named Bart B More, who’ll be tearing up The End with New Skool house Tuuuuuuuuuuunes!!! Apparently he’s ‘Well Big’ in Deutschland. Making the trip from across the water and far away will be L.A. based duo, Groove Junkies. Doctor’s reckon that being addicted to ‘The Groove’ is far healthier than being addicted to ‘The Horse’, so we should join together and welcome Groove Junkies with open arms. After all, they’ll be setting The End alight with soulful House music, alongside MN2S residents, CJ Mackintosh and The Jinks. Finally, up and over at AKA, MN2S resident, Joey Negro, will be delving deep into his (ball)sack of disco, soul, and generally groovy tunes. San Miguel Hidden Depths w/Secret Sundaze! T-Bar, July 31st!

If you haven’t already heard about San Miguel Hidden Depths (SMHD), that may be because Planet Notion has been incredibly slow on the uptake. For that, we apologise. You see, so far this year, SMHD has held two fantabulous music and media events in Manchester and London, with special guest curators including Wall of Sound Records' founder Mark Jones, and Belgian DJ duo The Glimmers. This brings us onto the next installment of SMHD, kicking-off in the heart of London at the T-Bar, Shoreditch. SMHD will welcome representatives of top house and underground techno hosts, Secretsundaze. Under the guidance of DJ luminaries James Priestley and Giles Smith, Secretsundaze has firmly established itself as a stamp on the global house circuit. The T-Bar will be transformed into a bespoke space on July 31st, representing the SMHD aesthetic, with art and print designs making for a unique audio-and-visual experience. Planet Notion also hears that there'll be very special guest DJs making the trip to T-Bar too. WOO-friggin-HOO! Forthcoming events in the SMHD series include the formidable Chromeo (plus guests), at The End and AKA, and a very special ‘It’s Pop It’s Art’ event, hosted by Lemon Jelly’s Fred Deakin. It’s that time of the month when Planet Notion gets all excited about scantily clad women, sipping margheritas and gyrating with all the pleasure of a 66 year-old granny playing with a Rampant Rabbit. We are of course referring to La Bomba, London’s premier Latin music event, at Ministry of Sound. Such is the brilliance of La Bomba that it’s now going global. Seriously. Not only are lucky buggers in London and Brighton treated to mesmerising sounds and hip-shaking beats, but now Germany and Ibiza have taken some funky-loving La Bomba fun to their party-bosoms. Anyway, to the Ministry of Sound event, where La Bomba faithful and new-comers alike will witness a Summer Payback Special Party; hotter than a stroll in the Sahara with Alessandra Ambrosio, wearing little more than a strip of masking tape and an edible thong. Ministry’s main area, The Box, will feature Guanabanas live on stage - backed by London’s top Latin DJ squad!!! We’re talking Jose Luis (Candela UK), El Moreno (Bar Rumba), Sami Sanchez (Black Market Records) and DJ Loco; playing everything from reggaeton and dancehall to Latin hip hop - all mashed-up into a throbbing, sweating beast of sex-soaked beats and sounds. Hyponik present: Love Music Hate Racism Fundraiser! 19th July!

Love Music Hate Racism… We at Planet Notion like the ethos; so too Hyponik. Hence why they’re supporting this summer’s annual ‘Love Music Hate Racism’ celebrations with a night of (and we quote) “Bass-driven tom-foolery” at Shoreditch venue Herbal. The event, taking place on Saturday 19th, will host two rooms; one with ‘Rebel Bass Mayhem’ and the other with ‘Dutt and Poom Reggae Vibes’. Kind of speaks for itself really… There’ll be a little something to float everyone’s boat, with tunes bridging the gap between indie, crunk, dubstep, techno, acid, breakcore, and so on and so forth; all backed-up by some heavy, Heavy bass! We like to think of it as a buffet. If you don’t like the Chicken Casserole there’s always the Lamb Dhansak. And if you don’t like House, you’ve always got dubstep to fall back on… Cheers God. The formidable Kid Twist’s latest addition, Drums of Death, has had tails wagging and cocks rising for sometime now; the lone Greco-Roman blends the kind of crunk-spunked electro that leaves one pooing their pants with fear and wetting themselves with joy in equal measure. A generous dollop of dub will be supplied by Dub Police stable-mate Caspa, whilst DJ Reso will rummage into a mixed-bag of drum ‘n’ bass, dub, and techno and much revered London producer, Mowgli, will be delving into his usual house/hip hop/electro hybrids. Room2 welcomes some very, very, extremely, extremely special DJs. Attendees can expect an eclectic mix of current classics, future classics, past classics, and damn right forgotten classics from Don Letts, the man responsible for bridging a gap between punk and reggae in the 70s. And Howie B, who remains one of the biggest names on the dub circuit, will be drawing on his production skills for the likes of Bjork, Tricky, and 'political activists' (sic) U2. Smartie Partie to launch Scala residency, July 12th!

Smartie Partie, which is in no way a celebration of the Blue Smarties – “Now with no-artificial colouring” - return, will be kicking-off a new residency at Scala on Saturday July 12th. Blending the best of the best of the best of HOUSE [ which Planet Notion absolutely adores (sic) ] , Smartie Partie will be bringing loads and loads of really cool resident and special guest DJs to the much-loved London venue. Awooga ! The residency came about after Smartie Partie (presumably pronounced par-tie ) held a night at the Scala in April; naturally it went down a friggin’ storm. It was intended as a kind of: “I wonder whether they’ll appreciate our shit” kind of night; a test of the water if you were, and apparently the masses did appreciate Smartie Partie’s ‘shit’ and the 'water' was just the right temperature for a wet and deeply pleasurable orgy… albeit in the ‘eclectic’ HOUSE MUSIC sense. Anyway, to kick-off their brand new residency (2nd Saturday of every month), Smartie Partie have reeled in Manumission’s DJ Lottie. Lottie’s music spans the board of HOUSE music; we’re talking tech-house, tribal, and deep-house to name but a segment… Her eclectic sets have earned her residency spots across Europe. In other words, Lottie’s pretty Hot(tie)!!! Smartie Partie’s launch at Scala will be spread across four floors, with the first playing funky club anthems (tantalising), the second delving into tribal and tech-house (salivating), the third digging into electro-house (orgasmic), and fourth spinning “all things house” (my pants are sticky). FUNKY décor, visual displays, and "so hot you could bake a spud up their arse-crack" dancers, will add a whole new level to the whole shebang. TOGETHER presents The Animal Rave @ Scala! June 28th!

22nd March 2008. The Past: A night both tear-jerking and euphoric; when the masses didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Instead they danced like paraplegic chimpanzee’s after a twenty-four hour binge on pills and energy drinks, united as one on this: The last ever Together Party at Turnmills. An emotional farewell… 25th June 2008. The Future: Following Together’s epic finale at Turnmills, where luminaries, nay, gods of their field The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim took to the decks, the club-night has travelled far and wide. Indeed, the good old rave spirit the Together regulate have come to know and love is living on. Having hosted one of the finest knees-up at Austria’s ‘Snowbombing’ fest, where residents including Justin Roberston and Streetlife DJs got a crowd dressed in 80s garb to ‘shake-a-groove’ (ahem), Together will now be parking-up at the King’s Cross ‘Scala’. This is exciting news; very exciting news. It’s going to be the first time the flagship Saturday night hosts of Turnmills have put on a night in Blighty since the venues closure; and boy are they returning in style. The Scala launch party has been dubbed: The Animal Rave, with attendees invited to showcase all their animalistic charm. More on that later… First to the line-up; it’s safe to say Together have never been ones to do things in half measures or, on this occasion, in demi-mesures ; for the club-night is bracing itself for a French invasion. First up, Daft Punk’s manager and Ed Bangers’ main-man, Busy P, will be hopping across the pond to play at the Scala. One of the biggest instigators of the robo-electro digi-pop that hits global airwaves from France, Busy P is responsible for the likes of Justice, SebastiAn, Uffie, Kavinsky and Mehdi. In other words, the infamous DJ’s up there with the best of them; a legend of his field. Unlike Busy P, fellow stalwart DJ Mehdi will be making his Together debut on Saturday 28th. Brought up on a rich diet of hip-hop, Mehdi’s electro beats incorporate the urban vibe; the slick-beatery (sic) of 2006 album ‘Lucky Boy’ just one of the reasons Together have been consistently begging the French luminary to play for them. Alas, now they’ve bagged their man. Having made his name alongside Together favourite Para-One, through releases on the hip-French label Institubes Records and with orgasmic-remixes for the likes of Chromeo and the Klaxons, DJ/Producer ‘Surkin’ will also take to the decks. Making up the French quartet and no stranger to Together, Yusek will be playing a blistering set; one of the nu-wave of French DJs highly expected to take clubland by storm this year… Viva la France! And so we move away from our friends across zee pond and to the other DJs joining the Together party-bus (Scala) including a live performance from Southern Fried Records’ Dusty Kid. Dubbed “one of the most exciting breakthrough artists”, Dusty Kid will be digging into an eclectic bag of 80s synths, acid-house, techno beats and minimal sounds. Dusty will be joined by much-worshipped Together residents Justin Robertson, Anil Chawla, and Streetlife DJs. Anil and Robertson will take to Scala's main room, or Dragon’s Den as it’s known, for an acid-dipped rave-up as cum-inducingly (sic) HOT as their set at Snowbombing. Streetlife DJs will be hosting their infamous Streetlife Sessions, familiar to the Turnmills faithful, in The Birdcage area of Scala. Awooga! Finally, Uniondjs will be swinging by, and London taste makers ‘dollop’ will be hosting The Viper Room, with bleeps and beats courtesy of cream of the current crop, Boy 8-Bit. Support will come from D'Lex, Me Me Me, Genki and, of course, the dollop djs. With the night being dubbed ‘The Animal Rave’, Together are encouraging attendees to don animalistic garb. Think apes, sloths, rhinos, rodents, bugs, lizards, sharks, hell – dinosaurs or Johnny Vegas if it tickles your fancy! Together are even throwing FREE face-painting and haircuts into the equation; the perfect ingredients for ‘morning after shellshock’: “I woke-up this morning with a silver Mohican, encrusted mucus around me' chops, and blue and red facepaint like a baboons wet arse-cheeks”. For those wishing to dress-up for the equation, outlets including Escapade in Camden and Madworld in Shoreditch are offering 10% discount if you quote ‘TOGETHER’ with your order; so NO excuses! On top of this, the first 200 people through the Scala threshold will receive a free animal mask. [Aggressive] GRRRRR! Oh, and look out for the Noah’s Ark procession on the dance floor, with Together attempting to pair-up beasts in two-by-twos in a biblical orgy of debauchery! Together is back in style, hosting their own tent at Get Loaded in the Park later in the year with the likes of Gossip, Soulwax, and Mylo taking to the stage, and gearing up for a residency at Pete Tong’s ‘Ibiza’ Wonderland. Manumission welcomes Jade Jagger and Jezebel! Every Friday at Amnesia!

King of club-night hedonism, Manumission, kicked-off a brand new residency at Ibiza’s legendary Amnesia last Friday, with a host of spanking-new resident DJs. Exciting news, especially when you consider that Jade Jagger, daughter of the Rolling Stones' Mick, has brought her glamtastic Jezebel club-night to the VIP room. Tantalising, I’m sure you’ll agree… Manumission is now entering its 16th season on the white island, having established itself as the cream of the sex-soaked party scene. For Amnesia, Manumission will debut the ‘Coney Island Review’, a vaudevillian stage show running in four parts every Friday. Believe the hype; it’s going to be the usual foray into a scantily-clad hedonistic wonderland! Mmm … Speaking of her new residency with Manumission, Jade commented: “Hosting the VIP every Friday and headlining three exclusive parties in the main room creates a perfect backdrop for the new summer of Jezebel. This gives us the chance to invite a new clientele as well as old friends such as Kylie, Grace Jones and Estelle to experience the Jezebel House Party. I cannot think of a better club or a more exciting party to be involved with in 2008”. Manumission will also welcome back their wee sidekick, the infamous dwarf Guru, Johnny Golden. Despite being a pint-sized fellow, Golden towers above all when it comes to pleasing the masses with outlandish, often sexual, often depraved, exploits. The cream-your-pants Manumission Girls and Dynamite Boys, stunningly clad in The Divine Creations of Manuel Albarran, have returned to Manumission, along with the golden couple, Mike and Clair Manumission. “Coming to Amnesia was like a breath of fresh air,” Mike and Claire commented. “The venue is more intimate and stylish and lends itself perfectly to our film and stage shows. The Hacienda Tour is back! Blackburn, Birmingham, Manchester!

Following a resounding cry of “When’re ya’ coming back?” from just about everyone on the clubbing circuit; their calls reverberating through the chest like 70,000 volts from a Defibrillator and two damp pads, the Hacienda Tour has stood-up with a jolt and announced: “We’re coming back now our kid, so turn-up the fookin’ bass!” Yep, all the ol’ favourites, including Graeme Park and Peter Hook, will be playing three locations North u’the border over the next month. Some of them will also be making the trip to Ibiza, but we’ll keep events to our blustery shores for now to save unnecessary confusion… Kicking off at King Georges’ Hall, Blackburn, on June 7th, Factory Records and Hacienda legend Peter Hook will be taking to the decks for a live DJ set. As well as one of the countries legendary bass players, first with Joy Division and later with New Order, Hook has produced work for Manchester bands including Inspiral Carpets and Stone Roses. Hook has recently been working on a new project, Freebass, a bass-playing three-piece including Smiths bassist, Andy Rourke, and Primal Scream and ex-Stone Roses icon, Mani. As a champion of the Manchester music scene, Factory Records, and The Hacienda, Hook has also written a number of acclaimed books on the subject. As well as kicking-off in Blackburn, Hook will also play Sankey’s Soap in hometown Manchester, where he’ll be joined by Acid House innovator and all-round legend of the 80s dance scene, Graeme Park. The DJ, who played at the Hacienda until its closure in 1997, will also play Birmingham’s ‘Rainbow Warehouse Party’ on Friday 13th. Described as “The Eric Cantona of House Music” (despite a low-temperament), original Hacienda DJ, Jon DaSilva, will also be playing all three dates in June. Tech, house and electro DJ/producer, Justin Robertson, innovator of the New York house scene, Todd Terry, and DJ Buckley, Elliot Eastwick, and funk and soul supremo (sic) Jason Boardman, will also be playing selective dates. Factory Records founder Tony Wilson once commented: “ When you have to choose between truth and legend... I say choose the legend.” With the likes of Blur, Oasis, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Happy Mondays, Joy Division, and New Order having graced the Pride of Manchester before its destruction, it’s good to see the Hacienda legend being kept alive.
